to be led
Kappa League is open to any young man in grades 9 through 12. You do not need a Kappa in the family.
What we ask for is attendance and effort. What he gets back is a room full of men who will know his name, ask about his grades, and expect something of him.
Kappa League was founded on February 12, 1969, by the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter, and adopted by the Grand Chapter in 1970. It is the flagship of Guide Right, the fraternity's national service program, running since 1922.

What a year
actually covers
The seven phases of Kappa League are not steps or levels to complete. They are the national framework that guides the experience, and every activity can support one or more of them, so a Leaguer develops across many areas at once.
Guided by all seven, the Memphis Kappa League has chosen four areas to emphasize this year. They do not replace the national phases — they are the priorities we will lead with while continuing to develop well-rounded young men.

Building stronger relationships, unity, accountability, and fellowship among Leaguers.
Community Outreach
Expanding our impact through service projects and meaningful involvement across the Memphis community.
Fundraising
Developing sustainable efforts to support chapter programs, activities, and future initiatives.

The questions
you're going to ask
Does my son have to be connected to Kappa Alpha Psi?
No. Your son does not have to be related to or connected with Kappa Alpha Psi to join. Kappa League is a leadership, mentoring, and community service program open to any high school young man who wants to grow academically, personally, and professionally. Through mentorship from members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., participants build character, serve their community, prepare for college and careers, and form lifelong relationships. We welcome young men from all backgrounds who are committed to learning, serving, and becoming future leaders.
What does it cost?
Dues are $150 for the program year. New members pay a one-time $25 application fee; returning members pay the $150 dues. Dues cover program materials, meals and refreshments, service projects, and leadership development activities. Need-based payment plans are available, and no qualified young man will be denied participation due to financial hardship. Families should contact the Guide Right Chairman to discuss assistance.
How often does it meet, and is attendance required?
Kappa League meets twice a month on select Sundays, 2:00 to 4:00 PM, August through May. Meeting locations will mainly be between the Kappa House and the University of Memphis and will be specified in all meeting communications. Attendance is required. Members are expected to attend all meetings and may not miss more than three during the program year without an approved excused absence. Excused absences must be submitted at least three days before a meeting unless there is an emergency.
What does he need to bring or wear?
Members wear the issued Kappa League tie, slacks (tan, black, or brown) or khakis, a white button-up shirt, a belt, and dress shoes (no sneakers), with a navy blue or black blazer. The tie is issued by the program.
Are the men working with my son background-checked?
Yes. Every adult who works with our Kappa Leaguers is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and all chapter advisors complete background checks. These are initiated members of a national fraternity, many of them established professionals in Memphis, who have committed their time to mentoring young men.
When do applications close?
Applications for the 2026–2027 year are open August 3 through August 16, and the program begins August 16. Please apply within that window. Applications received after it closes will be considered for the following program year.
